Description

The Douglas DC-6 is an American four-engine airliner produced between 1947 and 1950 by the Douglas Aircraft Company. It was designed following a request from the US Air Force for a military transport aircraft more efficient than the C-54, the military version of the DC-4, and with a higher carrying capacity. The new aircraft is designated XC-112; compared to the C-54 the fuselage is longer, the engines are more powerful and the cabin is pressurized. During the design, World War II ended, Douglas then transformed his DC-6 into a long-range civilian aircraft.
